S6E26 The Moral and Ontological Arguments

Morality

By: Dr. Brian Chilton and Curtis Evelo | April 13, 2023

On episode S6E26 The Moral and Ontological Arguments, Dr. Brian Chilton and Curtis Evelo discuss two additional arguments that contend for the existence of God. The ontological argument holds that God’s existence is both necessary and perfect by the nature of reality. The moral argument asserts that any moral code implies the existence of a moral lawgiver. That moral lawgiver must be God.

Brian and Curtis discuss the following on episode S6E26 The Moral and Ontological Arguments:

  1. Let’s start with the ontological argument. What exactly do we mean by “ontological argument”?
  2. How many forms of the ontological argument exist?
  3. Tell us about Anselm’s ontological argument of God as the perfect Being.
  4. What is the second form of the ontological argument concerning God existing as a necessary Being?
  5. Alvin Plantinga defended the ontological argument. What was his argument in favor of the argument?
  6. Let’s move on to the moral argument. What is the moral argument?
  7. What was C. S. Lewis’s version of the moral argument?
  8. What is David Baggett’s take on the moral argument?
  9. Concerning the ontological and moral arguments, what can we learn about God from these arguments?
