(Podcast 5.31.21) 5 Signs of a False Shepherd

Wolf In Sheeps Clothing

By: Brian G. Chilton and Curtis Evelo | May 31, 2021

When Bellator Christi Ministries first began, it started as a podcast called “Redeeming Truth Radio” on Blog Talk Radio. Unfortunately, many of those episodes are now lost. Brian and Curtis revived one of those episodes entitled “5 Signs of the False Shepherd” while also completely updating the material. They examine the five signs of false shepherds from Zechariah chapters 10 and 11. They also add material found in the Gospel of John and the 23rd Psalm.

  1. The false shepherd is signified by false doctrine (10:1-2a).
  2. The false shepherd is signified by self-exaltation  (10:2b, 3).
  3. The false shepherd is signified by blind acceptance…from his flock (10:2c).
  4. The false shepherd is signified by uncaring devastation (11:15-17).
  5. The false shepherd is signified by divine judgment  (10:4; 11:1-3). False shepherds should be corrected and avoided from being placed in leadership at all costs.
  6. Jesus in John’s Gospel gives us clear identifiable marks of a false shepherd so will be able to recognize a false shepherd John 10:7-13.
  7. David’s description of a good shepherd in Psalm 23.
