(S5 E6) Recap of Viewpoints on Creation

Creation God

By: Brian Chilton and Curtis Evelo | November 21, 2021

This podcast is a recap of the different viewpoints on creation. In recent days, creationism has again found itself on center stage in the modern theological and apologetics world. Even though a previous podcast in Season 4 discussed the different viewpoints on creation and evolution, Brian and Curtis reopen the topic to provide a recap of the viewpoints on creation. They particularly discuss some talking points that they did not previously cover. They conclude that the different varieties of creationism hold more in common than once thought.

  1. What are the two main views concerning creation?
  2. Explain the Young Earth Creationist viewpoint.
  3. What is gap theory?
  4. What is the Day Age Theory?
  5. Discuss the views of progressive creationism.
  6. Can you describe theistic evolution and how it differs from naturalistic evolution?

I am listening to this as I write. I just listened to the gap and day-age discussion. These are older ideas and I haven’t heard of any who hold those viewpoints anymore. I used to be an YEC proponent and teacher. Having begun a long-term personal study I now am definitely an old earth proponent, but unsettled about which. If one can find just one item that shows the earth is old, YEC is gone. That is easy. Now I have begun collecting information (from YEC even) that, if consistent, shows that the literal world flood version of the YEC is impossible.
Your comments about finches being still finches really does not deal with the evolution of such creatures realistically. The time involved (and allowed if the earth is indeed very old) is needed and available.
I would be glad to send you my personal study notes about the flood, if interested.

The biggest problem with this topic is the lack of grace and acceptance from those of differing views.

I believe all life comes from God. and the Genesis account mainly is to show the Hebrews that there is one God who created; he did it with order, a plan and expects accountability.
