(SIS S1 E8) Q&A and Interview on The Layman’s Manual on Christian Apologetics

Ask More Questions

By: Brian G. Chilton and Curtis and Evelo | August 22, 2021

Throughout the summer, we have begun a new series entitled the “Summer Interview Series” in which we interview the top scholars and experts in their chosen fields. Unfortunately, a couple of our interviews had to be postponed due to personal issues with our guests which impeded them from coming on the show. The interviews with Dr. Wade Mullen and Amanda Burke will be postponed until November of 2021. Stay tuned for more information. This week, Curtis interviews Brian concerning his book The Layman’s Manual on Christian Apologetics. Before the interview, the dynamic duo tackle four questions that have been in the Bellator Christi queue for quite some time. Join us for what is an interesting and compelling journey as we discuss the importance of delving deeper into Scripture, looking into the rest of Christ, and much, much more.

Q&A

1) Question on Soteriology and Intellectualism: Name: Mark

“I enjoyed your article on the problems of Calvinism. And I agree. Amen. But it seems too many people are hung up on debating Arminianism and Calvinism and should simply stick to the simplicity of the Bible. Consider this: God didn’t give His Word to a planet of scholars who have doctorates in divinity or seminary training. Look at Peter and the rest. Except for Paul none of the Apostles had seminary-like training or “letters.’ Through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit God uses the simple to confound the wisdom of the wise. No one on the planet knows the Bible 100% cover to cover; every spiritual mystery, nuance, or meaning, every jot and tittle. And I don’t believe we need to know the Bible 100% cover to cover to be able to go into all the world and fulfill the Great Commission. To point people to Jesus Christ and make disciples. Just look at the first century Christians; the people who walked with Jesus, those who followed Him: all the simple farmers and peasants and tent makers and former tax collectors and so on. These simple people turned the world upside down for Jesus Christ and they didn’t even have Bibles in their back pockets. No Strong’s Concordance or Bible Software.”

2) Question on Law & Grace by AppleMango: “What does John 1:17 mean? ‘For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.’

3) Sola, sola, sola from Anonymous: “Can you please recommend some introductory books for me on 1:The Five Solas 2: Sola Scriptura 3: Sola Fide?”

4) Yolk anyone? by AppleMango: “What does Matthew 11:28-30 mean? What does ‘For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light’ mean?”
