The Bellator Christi Ministry’s Position on Politics

God And Politics

By: Brian G. Chilton | July 31, 2020

As I write this article, I find myself amid a spectacular lightning storm. The lightning was so beautiful that I had to pause before writing trying to capture a photograph of its beauty. While I was unable to click the button in time to get a good picture, I am reminded of the political storm engulfing us. Everyone is espousing their political views from their chosen platform, so some may wonder why Bellator Christi Ministries has not entered the fray.

Without further ado, here is Bellator Christi’s position on politics. Bellator Christi is an apolitical embassy for the kingdom of God. Bellator Christi claims no political affiliation except that of the Christian party. Bellator Christi endorses no political candidate except the King of the Universe—i.e., the Triune God. Bellator Christi promotes no other platform except that of the inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word of God.

Should a Christian engage in politics? Absolutely! I encourage you to check out other Christian ministries that do just that. However, Bellator Christi’s goal is clear—to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ and defend Christian doctrine.

I realize that some people would call me a weak-kneed, small-chested sissy for not promoting political agendas. Having bench pressed 500 lbs. in my prime and a 54” chest, I’ll let you be the judge about the truthfulness about being small-chested. Nonetheless, I digress. When the online ministry first began, I was focused on politics to a fault. I found myself distracted from the primary mission of the gospel. In reality, I was talking more about politics than I was about Jesus. That is a major problem!

The thunderstorm this evening reminds me of my return to ministry. I had fought a return to the ministry for quite a while. God got my attention one day in late-September by putting me in a lightning storm that I should not have survived. The lightning struck so close to me that I could smell it. Did you realize that lightning has a smell? It does! I prayed that God would save me from being struck. He did just that. After the storm ceased, I discovered a large hole not far from me where a lightning bolt had struck during the storm. Some may say otherwise, but I believe God miraculously spared me that day. I surrendered to the gospel ministry that very day. I believe God called me to teach the truths of Scripture. The beautiful lightning in the skies this evening reminds me of the calling that God has placed upon my life and the day that God spared me from doom.

I close with this thought. If you want a safe place that focuses on theological and apologetic Christian truths without all the political drama, you will continue to find that here at Bellator Christi. We will not post articles or podcasts that enter the political world except if certain biblical truths warrant such action (i.e., the value of the life of newborns, the unborn, etc.). If political articles are what you desire, well and good. You will need to find those resources elsewhere that will help your cause.

At the end of the day, biblical prophecy will be actualized, the will of God will be accomplished, and God remains the King of the Universe no matter who is in office. As Job said, “[God] makes nations great, and he destroys them; he enlarges nations, and leads them away” (Job 12:23, ESV). Isaiah writes, “Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and those who depend on horses! They trust in the abundance of chariots and in the large number of horsemen. They do not look to the Holy One of Israel and they do not seek the Lord. But he also is wise and brings disaster. He does not go back on what he says; he will rise up against the house of the wicked and against the allies of evildoers” (Isa. 31:1-2, CSB).

God, not politicians, called me and spared me from an electrifying death. God, not politicians, has seen me through some extremely tumultuous times. God, not politicians, is my everything. God has been too good to me to become distracted by anything else. My focus will continue to be on God the Father, Jesus the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Everything else will eventually fade away. When the dust settles and all is said and done, God will still be God. Presidents will come and go. Political parties will rise and fall. Nations will come into and out of existence. But God will still be God. God endures forever. That is the Bellator Christi political position.
