(Podcast 7.8.20) The Christian Response to the Problem of Evil

The Problem Of Evil

Today’s podcast is emotionally charged as Brian Chilton and Curtis Evelo discuss the Christian’s response to the problem of evil. People often ask, why would a loving and powerful God allow a world to exist with all the intrinsic evil found therein? Does God have good reasons for allowing evil to exist? Brian and Curtis answer the question and reveals how Christianity offers the best response.

  1. A) Define the problem of evil. B) If God cares, why doesn’t he just stop all evil? C) Couldn’t God have just made everyone saints?
  2. How do you respond to the statement that an all-good, all-powerful, and all-knowing God would eliminate all evil as far as he could? Yet, since God does not do this, it seems, logically, that an all-good, and all-powerful God does not exist.
  3. People often think that the logical problem of evil is a problem primarily for people who believe in God. Would you say that it is at least equally problematic for atheists? Why?
  4. A) When we see tragedy or sin at work in our lives or the world, how can we comprehend God’s rule? B) What advice would you give Christians who are wrestling with the emotional problem of evil?
  5. Even if all the logical problems are solved, people still face terrible pain and suffering in their lives. What does the Christian have to offer such individuals? How can we respond to the emotional problem of pain?
