Let God Fight Your Battles

God Fights Battles

Have you ever had a person treat you poorly? What kind of response did you want to give back to them? If you are like most people, you probably want to give the person a good piece of your mind or maybe even a punch in the snoot. As a child, I was the victim of bullying. Because of that, one of my childhood heroes was the Incredible Hulk. It was such a fascinating sight to see when poor Bruce Banner was treated so poorly, only to strike revenge by transforming into a large green Goliath.

While turning into muscular versions of the Green Giant may be out of the question, we have someone who promises to fight our battles who is even greater and grander than the comic book gargantuan. God promises to fight our battles for us. When the Israelites were rescued from the Egyptians, they came to an impasse known as the Red Sea. The Egyptians chased after them. The sound of their horses’ hoofbeats could be heard at an elevated pitch as the Israelites felt the pressure of their imminent demise. Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and see the Lord’s salvation that he will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians you see today, you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you must be quiet” (Exod. 14:13-14). God did just that by dividing the Red Sea in two, allowing the Israelites to walk across on dry land.

God will fight your physical battles. The story referenced earlier is such an example of how God fights our physical battles. In his infinite wisdom and power, God fights the battles that we cannot. If we hold to God’s omnipotence, we realize that he has the power to do anything that can be accomplished. When you call upon God, you call upon infinite power.

God will fight your political battles. God raises nations and causes nations to fall. When God fights your battles, no nation can stand against you. Egypt was the strongest nation at the time of the Exodus. Yet God still redeemed the Israelites, who had no means of protecting themselves, from the most severe of political circumstances.

God will fight your spiritual battles. Many Israelites faced times of doubt just as we do today. They must have been overcome with fear and anxiety over what could come. However, God fought their spiritual battles by demonstrating his power over the powers of darkness. Ultimately, Christ Jesus defeated Satan by his crucifixion and resurrection. Because of Christ, we have victory over spiritual powers.

We may want to lash out at the person or thing that bothers us. But know that the Lord will fight your battles for you. When you have the Sovereign, Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent, Creator fighting for you, then why worry about what you will do? Turn your cares and concerns over to God. Let him fight your battles for you. He will make far more of an imprint than you ever could.
