(Podcast 5.12.21) A Review of Molinism

Molinism

By: Brian G. Chilton and Curtis Evelo | May 12, 2021

Last week, Brian discussed the problems in Wayne Grudem’s assessment of Molinism. The podcast stirred further issues that need to be discussed. On this edition of the Bellator Christi Podcast, Curtis Evelo rejoins the podcast and asks questions to clarify, explain, and fine-tune some of the more difficult aspects of last week’s discussion. Curtis asks Brian the following questions:

1) How can we understand the Molinist view in the most layman of terms?

2) Can a person lean to the Calvinist side or the Arminian side in the Molinist perspective?

3) In your rebuttal you gave credit to Grudem as being a top-notch theologian. What other views did he parse out in his book?

4) Did Calvin know of the Molinist view? Why did his view go to such a rigid view (ie. Tulip 5 point)?

5) Did Arminius know of Molinia’s view and why did his view go to the opposite extreme (ie. Away from Tulip 5 point)?

6) If we were to read the Scriptures for the first time without any presuppositions, what would we potentially find?

7) How is the topic of “hell” and “damnation” explained in the Molinist view?

8) Can we build a strong case for Molinism?

9) What kind of errors or shortcomings can we see in both Calvinist and Arminius views?

10) How does understanding the Molinist view help us minister to people?
