(Podcast 4.22.20) How the History of the Church Impacts our Modern Interpretations-Part 3: Great Awakenings to the Present Time

George Whitefield Preaching

On today’s podcast, Curtis Evelo and Brian Chilton conclude their journey through the history of the Church as they discuss the twists and turns that were taken from the time of the Great Awakenings to the present time. They discuss the ministries of the great evangelists George Whitefield, John Wesley, and Jonathan Edwards. They also discuss groups that formed out of a response to the revivals of the time. The formation of Baptist denominations, the emerging Landmarkism, and the rise of Holiness movements are noted, as well as the Azuza Street Revival of 1906. They also discuss the rise of the Southern Baptist Convention and the Charlestonian and Sandy Creek traditions. It is important to note that not everyone who aligns with certain denominations always agrees with all points of their chosen denominations. Nevertheless, by understanding the interesting history of the church, modern Christians have better insights into the present-day circumstances that are faced as well as a roadmap for the future. Catch all of this and much more on this edition of the Bellator Christi Podcast.
