S7E29 Bonus Episode: Why Creationism Still Matters

Wcsm

On this special bonus episode of the Bellator Christi Podcast, Dr. Brian Chilton is joined by his fellow writers of the book Why Creationism Still Matters. They discuss the importance of the doctrine of creation and how it impacts how we view God. The contributors also encourage believers to remain steadfast in their convictions about creationism and to not feel the need to adopt evolutionary concepts. Along with Dr. Brian Chilton, the contributors include Dr. Michelle Johnson, Dr. T. J. Gentry, Dr. Sherene Khouri, Dr. Deanna Huff, Mr. Tony Williams, Mr. Curtis Evelo, and Dr. Daniel Sloan. Curtis and Daniel were unable to join us tonight.

Questions Covered:

  1. (Brian) Let me take a few moments to explain what Why Creationism Still Matters (WCSM) is about and what we consider the sine qua non of creationism, as spelled out on page 12.
  2. (Michelle) Michelle, you offered a compelling biblical defense for creationism. What was the main premise of your argument?
  3. (Michelle to Brian) Brian, we skipped your chapter. Tell us about your argument for the cosmological argument in Chapter One.
  4. (TJ) Your chapter was a bit different from the others in that it was more reflective and came from a pastoral perspective. I loved your idea in approaching the topic that way. What inspired you to write your chapter from a pastoral perspective, and how did you approach the topic of creationism in your chapter?
  5. (Sherene) In your chapter, you discuss how Christian trinitarianism better explains creationism than Islam does. Could you briefly explain how Christianity makes better sense of creationism?
  6. (Deanna) You have been engaged in a lot of research on artificial intelligence and how the image of God in humanity plays out with modern advances into the work of transhumanism. Your chapter deals with this topic. How does the imago Dei impact our understanding of creationism?
  7. (Tony) You presented two options for how life came to be: either by unguided evolution or divine creation. What were some reasons that led you to believe that divine creationism is a better answer?
  8. (Brian) Brian briefly discusses his chapter on the viewpoints of creationism in Christian history.
  9. (Brian) Conclusion and final thoughts
  10. (Brian) Wrap up and a preview of Season 8.
