The Sermon on the Mount has challenged people for thousands of years, from every generation, nationality, and worldview. Jesus of Nazareth’s Sermon on the Mount continues to challenge people today. In a world where evangelical Christians are divided over politics, theological conflicts, conspiracy theories, and self-inflicted drama due to nasty Twitter and Facebook posts; it would prove beneficial to step back and evaluate the lifestyle that Jesus calls his disciples to live. In the sixth episode, Brian and Curtis discuss the uselessness of worry by working through Jesus’s teaching on the providential care of God. They provide tangible ways to minister to those who are suffering from doubt and anxiety.
Prior to the discussion of the Sermon on the Mount, Brian and Curtis discuss the CSB 2020 revision. Additionally, they refute the video of a person on Tik Tok who claimed that Jesus was a racist with his dealings with a Syrophoenician woman in Mark 7:24-30.
A) In beautiful, poetic fashion, Jesus compares the divine provisions of God to his caretaking of the natural world. What can we learn about God’s provisions by nature?
A-2) How does this apply today with such a variant of types of “provision “ that’s spoken of?
A-3) How do you explain the difference of provisions with such different locations and environments, cultures?
B) Is Jesus saying that we should never work for a living by teaching us not to worry about food and clothes?
C) What does Jesus tell us about the uselessness of worry?
C-2) How can worries take us away from the worship or connection to God?
C-3) Why is this teaching so critically important to us today?
C-4) How do we minister to someone who does worry or has a legitimate reason to worry? Is there any time that is legitimate?
