While the Bellator Christi Podcast tries to focus more on theology and apologetics, there are times when politics intersects with theological issues. Recently, the United Methodist Church (UMC) discussed plans to allow LGBT weddings to take place in UMC churches and for active members of the LGBT community to serve as clergy. By a slim vote, the UMC decided to keep the traditional plan to only accept heterosexual marriages in place. The push for the traditional outlook was led by the African arm of the UMC. Regardless of one’s political opinions, the manner in which the issues were addressed by the American church had a lot to be desired. Dr. Jerry Kulah, the dean of the Gbarnga School of Theology in Liberia, noted that Africans do not need to depend on finances as Americans do, but we’re going to stand firm on their biblical convictions. In this podcast, we evaluate the arrogance that is often exhibited in Western idealism and lessons that could be learned from the African church and the Global church. Also, Brian discusses an article he wrote and the concerns that come by the recent push to allow abortions at the time of the child’s birth.
