During the Brent Kavinaugh hearings, Senator Cory Booker made the comment about Dr. Ford’s truth. He said, “It is her truth.” Booker brings up an epistemological question much as Pontius Pilate posed in the first-century, essentially inquiring “What is truth?”. On this edition of the Bellator Christi Podcast, we dive into the issue of truth. What is truth?
Several theories exist as to the nature of truth, such as the following:
–The pragmatic theory of truth (it is what works);
–the coherent theory of truth (it is what coheres);
–the intentional theory of truth (it is what is intended);
–the comprehensive theory of truth (it is what is comprehensive in nature);
–the existential theory of truth (it is what is existentially relevant);
–the pleasure theory of truth (it is what feels good);
-and the correspondent theory of truth (Truth is “what corresponds to the way things really are. Truth is ‘telling it like it is’” (Norman Geisler, Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics, 742).
