(BCP) The Battle for Biblical Inerrancy (w. Dr. Phil Fernandes)

Phil Fernandes

In modern evangelicalism, the term “biblical inerrancy” has become a hot-bed of controversy. Biblical inerrancy simply means that the Bible is without errors. A battle is brewing within Christian evangelicalism over biblical inerrancy. More radical opponents to the doctrine have suggested that “biblical inerrancy” should be scrapped altogether. Others hold that the term “biblical inerrancy” should be redefined. But, are there good reasons for holding to biblical inerrancy as it is found in the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy? Would a recast vision of biblical inerrancy and especially the dismissal of biblical inerrancy lend itself towards a disregard for biblical authority–much in the way of the Jesus Seminar?

Our guest today argues that biblical inerrancy is a doctrine worth fighting to keep. He argues that tampering with biblical inerrancy lends towards a slippery slope which will eventually discredit the authority of Scripture. We welcome Dr. Phil Fernandes to the Bellator Christi Podcast. Dr. Fernandes, a native of New Jersey, resides in Bremerton, Washington. Fernandes holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy of Religion from Greenwich University; a Master of Arts in Religion from Liberty University; and a Bachelor of Theology from Columbia Evangelical Seminary. Dr. Fernandes proudly served his nation in the United States Marine Corps. He is a former police officer for the Subase Police Department. Also, he is a former amateur boxer.

Dr. Fernandes is a prolific writer, authoring the books Hijacking the Historical Jesus: Answering Recent Attacks on the Jesus of the Bible; The Fernandes Guide to Apologetic Methods; Contend Earnestly for the Faith; God, Government, and the Road to Tyranny; The God Who Sits Enthroned: Evidence for God’s Existence; No Other Gods: A Defense of Biblical Christianity; Theism Vs. Atheism: The Internet Debate; and The Decay of a Nation. Most recently, Dr. Fernandes served as the co-editor for the book Vital Issues in the Inerrancy Debate. Dr. Fernandes has traveled across the nation debating atheists on college campuses including Princeton, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the University of Washington. In addition, Dr. Fernandes is president of the Institute of Biblical Defense which can be found at http://instituteofbiblicaldefense.com.
